What is the Town’s Rental Ordinance? The rental ordinance is Town of Dumfries Ordinance #0-2005 which was passed July 5, 2005 requiring all rental homes in specified rental districts to be inspected yearly. The Building Official has maps available which identify the rental districts. How do I obtain a rental certificate?

If you are in a Rental District, you must have the home certified by the Town of Dumfries in addition to the Section 8 requirements. What happens if I do not get my property inspected? Any person willfully failing to comply with the inspection requirements of this ordinance shall be subject to a $50.00 penalty to be assessed every 30 days from the date notice is due for each property for which a homeowner fails to provide notice that he/she owns a residential dwelling unit which is subject to this ordinance.
