TOWN COUNCIL MEETINGS
Regular Meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm. The regular meetings are broadcast locally and may be viewed on Channel 3.*

Work Sessions are held the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm.

Councilman:
Charles C. Brewer

Councilman Brewer has been a resident of Prince William County for over 45 years. He is married with three children and has lived in the Town of Dumfries for the past 20 years. He first became involved with Dumfries Town Hall as a concerned citizen. Wanting to ensure the voice of the community was heard, Mr. Brewer ran for a seat on the Dumfries Town Council. He was elected to Town Council in July 2002.

“I stand committed on issues such as improved economic development for our town and a clean and safe environment for our citizens.”

Council Lady:
N. Sue Cornell

Council Lady Sue Cornell has been a resident of the Town of Dumfries for over forty years and has served on the Dumfries Town Council for ten years. She has been employed by the Prince William County Department of Transportation for forty years. Council Lady Cornell is married to W. Stanley Cornell. They have three daughters and three grandchildren. Mrs. Cornell has been active in both the Dumfries Elementary School PTA as well as the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program. Mrs. Cornell and her family are active members of the Dumfries United Methodist Church.

Council Lady :
Stephanie M. Bradley

Born in Alexandria, Virginia, Mrs. Bradley graduated from Fort Hunt High School, Fairfax County and attended college at Woodbridge Northern Community College
Married Kenneth J. Bradley on December 5, 1978 Mother of three sons, Matthew, Stephen and Kenneth Grandmother of three, Gwenolyn, Elena, and Nathaniel.

“We moved to Dumfries in 1988 where I became active in the Neighborhood Watch and was coordinator for the program for two years. I became a board member of the Williamstown HOA and it was through the interaction between this community and the governing body of Dumfries that I became interested in the politics of the Town.”

“After attending meetings of the Dumfries Town Council for years, in 2000 I decided to run for the office. My goals for the community were, and still are, placing Dumfries in the fore front as a stellar community in which to live which is currently in progress in by major improvements to the infrastructure and the development of a ‘Main Street Program’; I saw a need for establishing an ESL, English as a Second Language Class, and worked towards and accomplished a highly successful program for the Town of Dumfries; and wise usage of the tax dollar has always been my main goal when voting on issues and concerns facing our unique Town.”

“In 2002 my peers elected me to be Vice Mayor of the Town and have been thankful for the education that my tenure as council member has brought me. I look forward to continuing serving my community.”

Mayor
Fred E. Yohey, Jr.

Mayor Fred Yohey and his wife, Kay, have lived in Dumfries since January 1974. His two grown sons work and live in the area. He previously served on the Town Council from September 1995 until June 2004. .He hopes to lead by example and believes the current Town Manager, who took control of the day-to-day operation of town activities in November 2005, is doing an excellent job of making needed improvements to benefit town staff, citizens, and businesses. Mayor Yohey emphasizes his intent to work cooperatively with Dumfries Supervisor Maureen Caddigan and other county officials to bring a better quality of life to town citizens and businesses.

Mayor Yohey retired from the federal government in January 2004 after working 35 years for the United States General Accounting Office (GAO), the investigative agency of the Congress. During his career, he had a variety of important assignments involving the Department of Defense and Veterans Administration health care systems, the Food and Drug Administration, and Department of Education, among others. Immediately prior to his retirement, he worked for five years as an Assistant Director in the General Accounting Office's Office of the Inspector General.

Since his arrival in Dumfries, he had served in a number of volunteer positions. These include the Prince William County/Manassas Regional Jail Board, the Dumfries Board of Zoning Appeals, the Potomac High School Athletic Boosters Club, and the Dumfries United Methodist Church Board of Trustees, and Community Coalition.

Mayor Yohey is very interested in dealing with any problems that are not resolved to town citizens' satisfaction after meeting with responsible town officials. Councilman:
Rafael Lopez

Rafael Lopez is the former Zoning Administrator
Code Enforcement Officer for the Town of Dumfries. He is 25 years old. He was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, and grew up in Arlington County. He graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Management. He is very happy with the residents of Dumfries for voting him into office and he looks forward to serving the community.

Council Lady:
Brenda Via

Brenda Via has been a lifelong resident of the Town of Dumfries, where she has raised two daughters. She has been employed with the Department of Motor Vehicles for the past 20 years. She is a graduate of Garfield High School. She looks forward to serving the Town residents and the Dumfries Community. She thanks each resident for their support during her election and is grateful for the opportunity to serve.

Vice-Mayor :
Clyde N. Washington, Jr.

Councilman Washington has been a Dumfries resident for 32 years. He has been married to Gwen Porter for 36 years and has two children and two grandchildren. Councilman Washington has been a member of the Dumfries Town Council for 22 years and served as the Town’s Vice-Mayor for 8 years. He received his Bachelor of Science (BS) in Education from Norfolk State University and his Masters of Education (M. ED.) from Virginia State University. He is a retired Prince William County teacher (30 years) and a retired Garfield High School Assistant Football Coach (16 years). Councilman Washington has several community affiliations such as being a Deacon with the Little Union Baptist Church, a member of the Triangle Masonic Lodge #293, and a Lifetime member of the Virginia Education Association & the National Education Association.

Councilman Washington remains committed to the citizens of Dumfries and promises continued dedication, service, and representation with integrity. Councilman Washington believes that “Together we will make a Difference.”

Town Attorney:
Robert W. Bendall, Esq.

Robert W. Bendall, is a Partner in the firm of Smith and Davenport located in Manassas, Virginia, and was born in Richmond, Virginia, April 29, 1947; admitted to bar, 1973, Virginia; 1979, U.S. Claims Court; 1983, U.S. Supreme Court, was educated at The College of William & Mary (B.A., 1969) and
University of Richmond (J.D., 1972).

The Town Attorney’s Office provides quality legal services to the Mayor and Town Council, the Town administration, and various boards and committees by advising the elected and appointed officers in all matters relating to their official duties. The Town Attorney’s Office also prosecutes and defends on behalf of the Town, as necessary.
